Y‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍ou must prepare a poster or infographic on a topic related to Whose country? Race and the Colonial Experience (poster topic to be used: Australia Day also known as Invasion Day) The poster or infographic should be created using an online free software such as Canva. It should combine text and visuals (photographs, pictures, graphs, charts, tables, etc.) in order to highlight the topic chosen. The poster or infographic should combine strong graphic representation with text to give context for the images selected. But text should be legible and should not take up more space than the visuals. An accompanying 500 word text should explain the reasons for the choice of topic and briefly discuss the main issues covered, relating them to the academic literature, and drawing a conclusion based on your own analysis of the topic. A reference list should be appended to the end of the 500-word text using at least 5 academic references (APA 7 style referencing) Guide to creating your poster: 1. Research your topic as you would an essay, journal, etc. 2. Write a plan. 3. Divide your discussion up into relevant sections (. literature, analysis, personal reflection, reference list…) 4. Write your 500 word accompanying text – this should be a rationale for choosing this topic – why it interests you and why you think it is important – as well as an explanation of the research carried out and the academic references 5. Include a reference list on your accompanying text. Marking Criteria: Your poster assignment will be marked according to three criteria, each counting for one-thi‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍rd of the overall mark: 1. Content & Analysis. Your poster must be on a clear topic. You must provide an academically referenced argument, not only describing your chosen topic but analysing it with reference to materials examined in the unit or other academic sources (1/3) 2. Visual Presentation. The poster should be both clearly presented and visually appealing, combining visuals and text to good effect (1/3) 3. Written Text. An accompanying text should clearly outline the subject matter, the rationale for choosing it and the choice of academic sources (1/3) Please see dropbox link with a Powerpoint you will need to familiarise yourself with to complete this task. I have included 2 webpages that must be used and added to your reference list. You will need to find 3 more scholarly sources to make up the minimum 5 academic references required. In summary, Whose country? Race and the Colonial Experience examines the relationship between racism and colonialism and look at the construction of colonial rule in Australia, paying attention to how it is dually built upon the dispossession of the Aboriginal inhabitants of the land and on the experience of immigrant loss. We shall pay attention to how ideas of race and nation are closely intertwined and how race is used to legitimise colonial appropriation. We shall pay particular attention to the notion of terra nullius and examine debates about the teaching of the so-called ‘black armband’ approach to teaching about Australia’s colonia‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍l past.
