A reading review should describe, explain, and unpack the main points of the reading, the argument of
the author, the significance of the reading or the topic it discusses, and contextualize the reading in the
historical period or the topic that is under discussion during that week (lecture or other seminar material
covered up to that point). You can include your own opinion or critique as well: what did you learn from
the reading? Did you like the reading? Why? Why not? However, your opinion or critique should only be a
small part of the overall review.
