The Beginning of Wisdom is a piece of writing I am happy to have had the oportunity to read. Within this particular section, reading the thoughts surrouding purpose and living in the glory of God, it affirms exactly how significant human life is. As we are on our mission from God, or missio Dei, there is a sense of purpose and critical need for sending many messages surrouding the strength of God. In life, we have opportunities to discover our purpose. For example, we may find our purpose is to educate when sitting with our younger siblings. Additionally, there may be a group of friends who discover their purpose is to inspire others to drink responsibly through charity after losing a dear friend in a DUI tragedy. Furthermore, a miscarriage may lead a woman to know her purpose is to be a mother. Whatever the situation may be or how we are led, the point is to find a divine purpose; something granted upon your creation to inspire, guide, and love another.

People might discover their purpose by simply taking that leap of faith. I know for myself there are many things that I feel I would be great at, but I am too afraid too afraid to take that leap of faith and trying. If people just tried the things that they constantly think about they could possibly find their purpose. We all have hobbies and things we enjoy dong and we all have wondered how far could I take this? People should be more willing to find the answer to that question. If you attempt something you love you could find a purpose with in it as well. Missio Dei fits into a Christians sense of purpose by getting a sense of validation. In our textbook it references Eric Liddell and Karen and how they both just felt it, they felt that what they were doing was Gods will and what their purpose was for them.

Our Missio Dei is the God-given mission imparted upon each of us during our journey as Christians. Though our Missio Dei may not always be revealed to us in an explicit manner, all things will be made known to us in time. The Lord works in mysterious ways, but you will know that it is Him when he speaks to you. By being a Christian, I know we are all under The Great Commission in Matthew 28:16-20. This is an explicit mission imparted to every Christian to continually spread the word of the gospel and the salvation from Jesus Christ. I am also reminded of Micah 6:8, which says, “He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” It is a sacred honor to carry out a mission from God, even if it is just a smile to brighten someone’s day. Each day I strive to do all that would have me do, for my savior Jesus Christ has already done more for me than I could ever repay.

Thank you for asking this question as it made me access my choices in life both present and future. I have spent twenty years in law enforcement and have had the opportunity and blessing to implement change even if it were one person at a time. I have learned how you treat people matters. Our Christian mission is to leave people better than you found them. Jesus Christ was a servant and the ultimate teacher. He is the role model we need to cling to. As a public servant, I have enjoyed interacting with the community while upholding the law. I have observed mental illness, poverty, and human frailty. Prior to my career, I wanted to be a psychologist because I recognized the brokenness in this world. As I look forward to retiring, I am hoping to use my degree to continue to help the people of my community wherever that may be. My mission is to continue to incorporate my Christian beliefs and assists others in discovering genuine faith and purpose. As reiterated in Psalm 34:18, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

In the field of psychology and becoming a therapist I will be able to spread the word of God and Christ through showing love and understanding to those that are suffering the burden of mental health problems. I will help them take the thing that has happened to them that had been traumatic and help them understand that it does not define them. I want to help them take back their power over their own lives and make a path that takes them out of hopelessness, fear and pain and into strength and happiness. Healing themselves many times comes from helping others.

There are many ways to live out a Christian missional purpose within an academic or future vocation. One way is simply living the way God intended and showing kindness to other people, animals, and the earth. Another way is by taking the opportunity to teach them about God, but respecting their boundaries if they do not wish to listen. In my opinion, the best way to live out a Christian missional purpose is to do both living as God intended and teaching others. When one lives the way God intended, often those around them can tell and even become curious, which leads to opportunities to teach or guide them.
