Compare/Contrast Essay

DIRECTIONS:

Choose two works that we have read in class.  You can look through the previous modules to see the works.  Here is the list of authors:

1. Poe 
2. Kate Chopin
3. James Joyce
4. Zora Neale Hurston
5. Charlotte Perkins Gilman
6. Flannery O’Connor

Choose two works that you enjoyed reading, and would like to write about.  Find the similarities between the two works (they can be about the authors, the characters, setting, themes, tone, etc.) and write about how the two works are similar (compare).  Then, find two topics that speak to how the works are different (you can use the same points I mentioned above – if they show how the works are different) and write about the differences (contrast). 

Please submit your PRE-WRITING AND ROUGH DRAFT of your essay under the “submit” tab.

Your draft should be typed in the following format:

• MLA format
• 12 pt. size font
• proper heading/header
• Times New Roman font
• in text citations / parenthetical citations (evidence from the story that supports your points
• Double-spaced throughout (no extra space between paragraphs)
• Indent each paragraph
• Make sure you have an INTRO paragraph with your THESIS. 
• Paper should be 3 pages typed (not including Works Cited page).
