Annotations can be made on hard copies, electronic copies, separate papers/files, or a combination of these, but you must be able to electronically upload your annotations for each reading as a single pdf file (I recommend using a free pdf scanner app on your phone), and/or as a text document (doc, docx, or rtf files only). While the nature of texts varies and the type and quantity of your annotations will reflect this, the general expectation is that you will have an average of 1-2 substantive comments per column of text in addition to any highlighting. You are strongly encouraged to experiment with different ways of annotating and highlighting during the semester (see the resources “Critical Reading” and “Annotation Examples” for suggestions; note that comments like “great” or “I like this” are not substantive, but really just forms of highlighting).
