Having looked briefly at the world of wine and how much some people are willing to pay for a particular bottle, for your writing assignment this week, we are going to look a little bit more at the idea of fine, or high level dining. A world where not only can the meals be super expensive, but also the most basic ingredients probably cost a lot more than you would normally spend at the local grocery store. In this case, we are going to hear about the tasty and tuberous fungus, the truffle.
After watching the episode, put together a critical response that puts together some of the points and ideas that come out of this video and the ideas that crop up in Somm. There is just some foods and drinks out there that are insanely beyond the reach, or want, of most people. Would you be willing to pay for the prices asked here for a truffle or any of the other ingredients? Is it worth it? When you think about the food you eat, how do you think about the cost of something and what makes it worth it to you? Amount? Rarity? Higher quality?
