Every paper should be crafted around three primary components:
1. Subject- what is the topic of the paper?
2. Audience-who is the audience for my paper? This helps with language choice and
background/other additional information that might be needed to clarify/explain.
3. Purpose-what point(s) do you want your audience to acknowledge/understand about that
subject when you are done?
The general topic (subject) for this paper is COVID. Your audience consists of a future generation (your kids or grandkids) who have learned about the great COVID years in a book or through YouTube videos. Explain the logical fallacies of the COVID response to a future generations and how they served to undermine the citizenry’s confidence in public health. This is not to say COVID is not real, it is not deadly to certain people, or to undermine anyone’s experience with it. Objective, critical thinking is of the utmost importance with this topic. Use specific references throughout to support it.
EXAMPLES are:
Vaccines will stop transmission/are safe/vaccinate/”minimize symptoms” Masks work only if everyone wears one
Cloth masks were fine they first two years. Then they weren’t.
Shots work only if everyone gets them
COVID knows when you are sitting to eat in a restaurant vs sitting at a desk in school Dying “with” COVID vs dying ‘from” it
COVID knows the different between 6’ 1’ and 5’ 11”
COVID doesn’t exist
15 days to stop the spread
Any number of contradictory statements by public health officials throughout. The list is expansive.
NO YOU DO NOT HAVE TO USE ANY OF THESE BULLET POINTS. There are probably a lot more. You may think outside of these. It might stem from a personal experience
that you can turn into one that applies to many. There are a lot of angles here, especially since we are all still experiencing them.
Keep in mind your audience. It is a general audience of a future generation who asks you about the fallacies of the COVID years. Once you figure that out, write an essay of a minimum of three (3) pages double spaced to prove/support/defend said thesis. Use specific examples/evidence for support; however, do NOT use outside sources for the draft. You should think critically about this topic and draw on your own observations/experiences regarding it.
Check against the academic error writing list…especially no “I” or “you”. An experience specific to you can be applicable to many. The key is to adjust the language to make it less a one off in your situation to a situation that can be applied to many situations. I will help with this.
Make sure it is in proper MLA format:
Typed in 12 font and double-spaced with normal 1” margins.
Title –Centered with NO quotes, underlines, italics, bold, etc.
