Parenting Project Instructions
For the project,
students will select a vignette detailing a child with a psychological
disorder, learning disability, or behavioral problem. The student will take on
the role of the parent of this child. Each student will be responsible for
researching the child’s disability as well as contacting agencies in the
community about support groups and other resources. The child in the vignette
may range from a small child who was recently diagnosed with autism to an
adolescent diagnosed with depression. The final paper will include details
about who was contacted, information obtained from these resources, and what
the student learned while completing the project.
VIGNETTE SELECTED: A
ten-year-old who has ADHD.
For
the Parenting Assignment, this is not an APA style paper. In this assignment,
you are the counselor or social worker or which professional you choose. You
are explaining the disorder to the parents and what can be done to work with
the child as it pertains to the disorder. For example, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, your
child has ______________. Explain the disorder, etc.
Offer
suggestions such as food choices that may be better for the child and/or how a
schedule would be beneficial. Your final paper should include
details about who was
contacted,
information you were able to
get from these resources,
and what you learned from
completing this project should be your last paragraph
