What are some of the themes present throughout the readings this semester? Here are some examples: dark, darkness, New York City, violence, addiction, unseen, immigrants, grief, sexualization of the Asian female body, music, and so on.
Choose one of the themes above (or come up with your own and check-in with me so we can talk about whether it’s feasible), and write a 4-5 page paper analyzing how the theme is treated in the literature we have read. Feel free to include outside sources. There should be a Works Cited page, a class heading, doubled-spaced in either Arial or Times New Roman font size 12.
Believe it or not we’re not in the business of paper formatting or essay structure, but working through our own ideas. A “grammatically correct” paper of five pages with perfect citation is useless if it parrots what other people have said and does not have a cohesive point leading to *some* kind of ultimate revelation. Remember, what is the point in you writing what you write (aside from it being a requirement) and how can you develop and work on your own learning process? How can you create a process that helps you think through ideas both in this course, other courses, and outside the university? What does learning look like and how can this paper do this?
