This assignment asks you to choose one of the following formats and tailor your selected topic to the instructions provided.
NOTE: You may select a topic from the list provided below or develop your own topic in consultation with your professor.
Formats & Instructions
1. The Research Essay
This assignment asks you to select a topic and construct a thesis and arguments that prove your topic has had a significant impact on the video game industry and/or culture.
Your paper will be approximately 1250-1500 words (5-6 pages), and you must include a minimum of three (3) research sources.
2. The Report
This assignment asks you to select a topic and detail its significant impact on the video game industry and/or culture. Your report will be approximately 1250-1500 words; formatting and graphics will determine the page count.
You are required to include a minimum of two written research sources (articles, books, websites, etc.), and you must also include at least two pieces of visual evidence (images, graphs, charts, etc.).
3. The Visual Presentation
This assignment asks you to either:
Select a topic and construct an argument that proves your topic has had a significant impact on the video game industry and/or culture
OR
Provide a close analysis of two games: one that illustrates problematic representations of gender, race, and/or violence and one that depicts one or more of these issues in a sophisticated and thoughtful manner.
Your slideshow (PowerPoint, Keynote, Prezi, etc.) will consist of 18-21 slides, and you must include a minimum of two quotes, links to three external sources (videos, articles, podcasts, etc.), and visual imagery to support your arguments.
