Partners will be assigned 1 of the 10 available topics relating to our lecture of the day. For the Group Project, your group must find at least 3 trusted sources for reference. For the project grade, your group must form an OUTLINE (not a paper) of the information youve gathered on the topic for your classmates. The outline and your groups references must be submitted on Blackboard prior to the presentation day. Groups will present their topic to their peers on one of the designated days. The outline and references will be made available to the entire class on the day of the presentation. The presentation must be at least 20 minutes long. PowerPoint slides are not permitted. Further details will be explained in class.
I just need the format to look like this with at least ONE resource. Thank you! Can you please tackle Asian American voter suppression? If you cant, it’s okay.
This is an example:
Suppressive Impacts of Voter Identification Requirements
Voter suppression
According to political analysts, the United States is currently experiencing voter suppression. The obligation to produce identification documents at the pollsvoter ID policyis one method that may reduce voter turnout. The disproportionate effects of voter restrictions on racial minorities have been a source of worry for voting rights campaigners. Previous research, on the other hand, has shown mixed outcomes. By examining nationally representative data from the Current Population Survey over nine election years, we show that voter ID rules, particularly “tight picture ID policies,” have a suppressive effect on participation. Self-reported voting can be reduced by up to four percentage points under voter ID legislation, which can swing a national election. While we discovered that all ethnic groups are suppressed by ID regulations, we discovered that severe ID policies had a disproportionately negative suppressive effect on Latino people.
Research questions
Research Question 1: What are the effects of Voter ID policies on voter turnout?
Research Question 2: Do these policies affect voting for all racial/ethnic groups, or is the
impact selective?
Findings
-
We find that African American and non-Hispanic white voters are equally disadvantaged by ID requirements. Latinos, on the other hand, are more disadvantaged. This finding is consistent with other studies showing a more pronounced suppressive effect among Latinos
-
We suspect that an important vulnerability of Latinos is their large share of immigrants, above and beyond the effect of immigrant status at the individual level that is controlled in the multivariate models
-
This sentiment may impact voter turnout, as citizens may avoid voting if it would bring attention to households that include family members with more precarious statuses. This fear and intimidation will not be overcome by the usual partisan campaigning and get-out-the-vote efforts. But, possibly a long-term pro- cess of mobilization can have the same success in the twenty-first century as the civil rights struggle accomplished in the last one.
