Participation Requirements

The student must answer the graded discussion with a substantive reply to the graded discussion question(s)/topic(s) posted by the course instructor by wednesday, 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time. Two scholarly sources references are required unless stated otherwise by your professor.

Inclusion of DNP essentials explored in the discussion as well as the role-specific competencies as applicable.(10%)

Rigor, currency, and relevance of the scholarly references. (Use articles that are below 5 years). (20%)

Peer & Professor Responses. The number of responses, quality of response posts. (20%)

Timeliness of the initial post and the answers to the peers. (10%)

Step-by-Step Guide for Writing Your Discussion Post

Step 1: Understand the Scope of Global Health

Review the history of global health:
- Early international health efforts (19th–20th century)
- Formation of organizations like WHO (1948)
- Global initiatives addressing infectious diseases, vaccination campaigns, and maternal/child health
Highlight key historical milestones to provide context

Step 2: Apply Key Concepts of Global Health

Identify core concepts:
- Population health approach
- Health equity and social determinants of health
- Disease prevention and health promotion
- Global burden of disease metrics (DALYs, mortality, morbidity)
Explain how global health strategies address disparities and improve outcomes
Connect these concepts to the determinants of health: social, environmental, economic, behavioral, and biological factors

Step 3: Analyze the Role of Global Health in the Global Burden of Disease

Discuss how global health initiatives target major causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide

Discuss implications for policy, resource allocation, and healthcare improvement

Highlight DNP essentials relevant to global health:

- Systems leadership and policy advocacy
Explain how global health knowledge informs role-specific competencies:
- Improving care delivery across populations
