Step-by-Step Guide to Writing a High-Scoring Executive Brief

Step 1: Choose the Right Article

  • Select an article from a credible business or sales periodical

  • Ensure it focuses on a sales or sales management topic

  • Confirm the article was published within the last 180 days

  • Save the URL — you will need it for the heading

Step 2: Set Up Your Document Correctly (Format Matters!)

Before writing anything, format your paper:

  • Font: Times New Roman

  • Size: 12-point

  • Spacing: Single-spaced

  • Length: Exactly one full page

  • Alignment: Standard academic formatting (no extra spacing)

Step 3: Create the Required Heading

At the top of the page:

  1. Title of the executive brief

  2. Name of the publication

  3. Publication URL in Heading 3 format

Your executive brief should include:

  • A clear summary of the article’s main idea

  • Key insights relevant to sales management

Step 6: Paraphrase — Do NOT Copy

  • Use your own sentence structure

  • Change wording, order, and phrasing

  • Avoid quoting unless absolutely necessary (and even then, sparingly)

🚨 Copying—even small sections—results in an automatic zero.


Step 7: Edit for Grammar and Clarity

  • Read your brief out loud

  • Check grammar, spelling, and sentence flow

  • Ensure the writing is professional and concise

Remember: Grammar is worth 5 points, and easy points should never be lost.


Step 8: Final Review Before Submission

Ask yourself:

  • Is it exactly one page?

  • Is the article within 180 days?
