Struggling with where to start this assignment? Follow this guide to tackle your assignment easily!

Step 1: Create the Big Idea for Your Country

Before drawing anything, decide:

  • What kind of country is this? (peaceful, powerful, adventurous, futuristic, nature-based)

  • What are you interested in? (sports, animals, art, technology, food, music)

Your interests should influence:

  • The flag

  • The culture

  • The food

  • The landmark

This makes your country unique and easier to explain.

Step 2: Design the Map Layout First

Lightly sketch your country in pencil:

  • Decide the shape and size

  • Plan where mountains, water, cities, and borders will go

  • Leave room for labels and symbols

Tutor tip: Planning first helps keep your map neat and colorful.

Step 3: Add Required Map Parts

Make sure your map includes:

  • A compass rose (N, S, E, W)

  • A map scale (example: 1 inch = 100 miles)

  • A grid system labeled with degrees

  • A map key explaining every symbol used

Everything on your map must match your map key.

Step 4: Create Political Features

Add:

  • Country borders

  • States or provinces inside your country

  • Both geometric boundaries (straight lines) and physical boundaries (rivers, mountains)

Then add four cities, each with the correct location and symbol:

  • Capital (center of government)

  • Megacity (largest population)

  • Port city (near ocean or lake)

  • Edge city (near the border)

Step 5: Add Physical Geography

Include at least four named geographic features, such as:

  • Mountain ranges

  • Rivers or lakes

  • Deserts or forests

  • Oceans or seas

Use realistic placement (rivers near mountains, ports near water).

Step 6: Explain Human Geography

On your map or information sheet, clearly explain:

  • What crops your country grows

  • What it produces and exports

  • The climate

  • The official language

  • The type of government

  • Religion breakdown

These should make sense together (example: tropical climate → tropical crops).

Step 7: Culture and Identity

Design:

  • A flag with color and symbol meanings

  • Traditional clothing (draw or glue an image)

  • A national dish or signature food

  • A national animal and why it represents your country

  • A major holiday and what it celebrates

This shows your understanding of culture.

Step 8: Add a Famous Landmark

Create one unique landmark:

  • Natural (waterfall, canyon, volcano)

  • Man-made (statue, tower, stadium)

Give it a name and place it clearly on the map.

Step 9: Final Check Before Turning It In

Ask yourself:

  • Are all 17 requirements included?

  • Are symbols explained in the map key?

  • Is everything labeled clearly?

  • Is the project neat, colorful, and creative?

Tutor tip: Neatness and effort matter just as much as accuracy.
