Book : Andersson, R.-H. (2021). Bridging Cultural Concepts of Nature : Indigenous People and Protected Spaces of Nature (R.-H. Andersson, B. Cothran, & S. Kekki, Eds.)
In the discussion covering Weeks 4 and 5, we will explore some of the core topics from your Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science degree program as they relate to the books you are reading in class . The idea behind our “book club” style discussions is to engage with popular environmental themed literature, to identify and understand the science, and to reinforce our understanding of central themes in the environmental sciences. When posting your original thread, consider including the book title in the discussion thread title. Your original post is expected to relate to the book you selected in Week 2 Book Selection.
Please select from one of the following topics:
Topic Option 1. Water and Soil Science – you have been reading through the book that you selected for senior seminar and should be more than halfway through by the end of Week 4. Think back on your core courses related to water and soil science. Identify one topic discussed in the book that was covered in one of these courses. Identify the course, the topic, and then, seek out a peer reviewed scholarly publication form the APUS library. Summarize the article in the context of its relevance to the book you are reading and the course topic. Where is the intersection? How does the primary research article further ideas from the book and from the course(s)? What new ideas or future research ideas do these connections spark for you?

As you learn more and dive in further to your reading, consider how the book relates to the weekly topics we cover in the lessons. Also, see if you can find current news stories related to your book topic. You may want to add to your thread with reply posts throughout these two weeks as you continue diving deeper into your readings.
