Lab reports must be turned in Canvas by 1:00 pm the day they are due. Late reports will not be graded. Use this format for the file name: LastName_FirstName_Rep #X.
The reports must be typed using font size 11 (font: Arial) or 12 (font: Times New Roman) in 1.5 line spacing, with 1 inch margins, the collected data must be typed and be included as part of your lab report.
Your lab report must include the following sections:
Title page and abstract (5 pts) – The abstract is a brief summary of the objective, experimental results (the calculated molar mass of a gas, errors, etc) and any significant conclusions. Typically, 50 to 100 words long.
Introduction (1 page, 15 points) – Statement of the purpose of the experiment and a brief outline of the theory and background, citing pertinent equations and citing references whenever appropriate. Do not include the same content found in the handouts or the textbook; instead based it on the references you are citing. It should be at least 1 page long. Equations and/or figures included in the text will not count toward the required minimum length.
Experimental Method (5 points) (I DID THIS ALREADY)– Brief outline of the experimental procedure or methodology. Do not copy directly the procedure from the instructor’s handout, as this would constitute a violation of the Academic Honesty Policy, instead use your own words.
Results (20 points) (DONE ALREADY)– Experimental results in full detail, making use of tables, plots and figures when appropriate. All results must be reported with proper units.
All calculations (all steps) (DONE)must be shown with their proper units, and these will be included in the Appendix section.
Discussion (minimum half-page, 30 points) – Data analysis, data interpretation and in-depth, meaningful discussion of the results that includes a close examination of the results and possible sources of errors, relationships among variables, etc. The discussion must be based on the results obtained in the experiment.
References (At least 1 reference, 5 points) – This reference must correspond to primary literature (peer-review articles) DIRECTLY related to the experiment performed. They must be cited in accordance with ACS guidelines (provided in a document uploaded in Canvas). Don’t cite the same references provided in the lab handout.
Appendices (20 points) – Include all your calculations with proper units (don’t omit steps, your instructor must be able to determine how each result was calculated so that you can receive credit). All calculations steps must be typed. Include any other supplementary material in this section.
I have done most of the report. you will do just an introduction, and the discussion and the references as well as the abstract. make sure to use ACS formatting. (sources will be used as a superscript after the text. you won’t write out the authors name when u use the sources)
