Hi for this assignment my teacher left feedback on my capstone project which needs to be corrected before I submit it. If it comes up I had three respiratory therapist and one nurse do a survey on whether a MD,PA,or RN reached out to a respiratory therapist before touching the ventilator. I believe most of my feedback is focused on my abstract part of my capstone which is the first paragraph. If you need any help with this paper please reach out. Thank you.
Hi Ericka, About your abstract, it effectively outlines the aim, methods, findings, and implications of the study aimed at optimizing ventilator control and communication in the ICU at Stanford Hospital. However, there are areas where it could be improved for clarity and impact: 1) Be more clear on your objective. *While the abstract mentions optimizing ventilator control and communication, it could benefit from specifying the specific objectives or goals of the study more explicitly. What specific aspects of ventilator management and communication were targeted for improvement? Think about who will be best impacted the most. Patient care? LOS? etc. 2) Provide more detail on the methodology employed in the study. Specify the number of participants involved in interviews, questionnaires, and observations, as well as any inclusion criteria used to select them. Additionally, describe the data collection process in more detail, including the duration and frequency of observations and how quantitative and qualitative data were analyzed. 3) Instead of using general statements such as “Many of them said they had happy collaborations,” provide quantitative data or specific percentages to quantify the prevalence of communication deficiencies or errors observed in patient care. This will strengthen the credibility of the findings and provide a clearer understanding of the study’s impact. 4) While the abstract mentions the necessity of enhanced communication practices and teamwork training, it could elaborate more on the specific implications of the study findings for clinical practice and patient care. How will addressing communication deficiencies and improving teamwork benefit patient outcomes and the well-being of respiratory professionals? Here’s a revised version of your abstract that incorporates these suggestions: This study aimed to optimize ventilator control, communication, and coordination in the ICU at Stanford Hospital to enhance patient security and minimize errors. Methods included interviews, questionnaires, and observations of respiratory therapists (RTs), doctors, physician assistants (PAs), and registered nurses (RNs) to assess current practices and communication effectiveness. Data collection involved quantitative and qualitative techniques, including stakeholder interviews, surveys, and real-time observation of team engagement. Findings revealed inadequate attention to communication and collaboration during ventilator management, with divergent practices among healthcare professionals. While many reported positive collaborations with RTs and RNs, some noted communication deficiencies leading to errors in patient care. The study underscores the necessity of enhanced communication practices and teamwork training for healthcare providers responsible for ventilator management. Addressing these issues is crucial for improving patient care, reducing errors, and supporting the well-being of respiratory professionals.
