After reading the chapter and reviewing the PowerPoint and supplemental readings

After reading the chapter and reviewing the PowerPoint and supplemental readings on the course site, you should complete the following tasks:
Answer the questions below. Your responses should be AT LEAST, 5 to 7 sentence, paragraph per question set (meaning numbers 1,2,3, etc. should be about one paragraph in length.) Your responses should demonstrate a clear engagement and understanding of the course material, critical application of the sociological concepts/theory and should include clear grammar and sentence structure. Please review the assignment rubric under ′Course Resources′ for clearer indication of grading distribution and let me know if you have any questions/concerns.
Questions:
1) Professional football and baseball teams, as well as numerous high school and college sports teams, use American Indian mascots. Some American Indians and their supporters object to this practice, suggesting that it is offensive. Use the Internet to research the issue and create a list of arguments used by those who defend and those who reject American Indian mascots. With which position do you agree and why?
2) To better understand the idea that race is a social construction and the real life impact that it has on individuals, I would like for you to research the effect that the corona-virus (Covid-19) has had on xenophobia, hate crimes and the perceptions of race in the US. Find one article or news story about xenophobia and the corona-virus. How does this article demonstrate the concepts of racialization, racial formation and racial projects? Now you should use one of the three theoretical paradigms (functionalism, conflict theory, symbolic interactionism) to analyze the story. Please provide the link to the news story.
3) The PowerPoint discussed three fallacies of racism ( notes section of slides). Attempt to find evidence either for or against two of the three fallacies. That is, can you prove that the fallacies are in fact fallacies or is there some truth to them? Explain your answer using a sociological perspective of your choice (e.g. intersectionality, institutional racism, racial formation theory, etc.)
1) For example: The individualistic fallacy states that racism functions at the individual level; people are racists, but institutions and society in general, are not racist. I know this is not true, proving that it is in fact a fallacy, because incarceration and arrests records (source) indicate that people of color are, in fact, arrested, imprisoned, etc. at higher rates than their white counterparts…..
