Notes
Have fun with this assignment. Think about what we have covered so far in class. What questions could you ask to determine whether the accused would qualify for reduced bail if they are still incarcerated or if they qualify for a pre-trial rehabilitative program like drug court? If you are interviewing a victim or witness, the minute they open their mouth to you the may be in danger. What kinds of questions could you ask them during intake that would helpful to secure their safety and future cooperation. Remember time is of an essence in criminal cases your inability to do a thorough intake could have dire consequences to someone’s safety or freedom.
You can you use the sample client intake posted here and in week 5 coursework to get your started but remember…..this is a “basic” intake. I want to see you go a step further. The goal is to get them talking. You may be the 1st and if it doesn’t go well the only person the witness/ victim / defendant sees from your firm/ office/ agency. You are the 1st impression!
I will give 10 extra credit points to anyone who corrects their client intake forms. The goal is for you to leave this class with a form that is ready for use in the field.
