There are two parts to this discussion assignment. Each part is worth 15 points. Clearly separate Parts 1 and 2. Your answers to each part must be at least 250 words (so a minimum 500 words in total for both answers). You do not need to respond to a classmate.
Part 1 – Reading Question
Choose one of the following reading questions to answer about Work Won’t Love You Back “Ch. 2 – Just Like One of the Family: Domestic Work” (55-82). Only answer one of the questions. Fully develop your answer using examples from the text including quotations, paraphrase, and summary. Your post must be at least 250 words.
Throughout this chapter, Jaffe notes several ideas that were considered “natural” by some (61, 63, 66). Identify these examples and explain what the ideas were. Also, explain who “constructed” these “narratives” and why they did it (61).
Describe one or more of the examples from the chapter of domestic workers organizing into unions. What were they fighting for, how did they do it, what opposition did they face, and was it successful?
What are the challenges and rewards that Adela Sealey describes about trying to organize domestic workers into labor unions? What is her argument for why domestic workers should join unions?
How does this chapter relate to the film Parasite? Consider the relationship between employer and domestic workers among other things. Provide specific examples from both the chapter and the film to support your answer.

Part 2 – Critical Reviews
For Essay 1, you must engage with the critical reviews of Parasite. How did critics interpret the economic and social critique in the film? What was their overall evaluation of the film? What does the filmmaker himself say about the themes and his rhetorical choices in the film? Respond to the critics, stating whether you agree or not with their analysis and evaluation. Summarize and directly quote the critical reviews of Parasite.
Choose at least two of the following sources. Read them, summarize their interpretation of the economic and social critique in the film and their overall evaluation of the film, and then respond whether you agree or not with their analysis and evaluation.
