This discussion will review the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) and determine the areas and the extent to which the website supports EBP. The AANP is a professional health association that gives nurse practitioners, as well as nurse practitioner students, a chance to register with them. The organization’s mission is to empower nurse practitioners from all specialties to advance patient-centered, accessible, equitable, and high-quality health care for diverse societies through advocacy, practice, research, education, and leadership (AANP, n.d.-e). The organization has more than 121,000 members who work in collaboration to advance patient care and forge ahead in the profession (AANP, n.d.-c). The organization offers the members a chance to advance their education, link with others in the profession, advocate for their rights and other issues they face at both state and federal levels, and access to recently updated medical journals (AANP, n.d.-b). Upon reviewing several tabs on the organization’s website, one would discover that EBP is evident. Areas within AANP that exhibit EBP include: The social media site. Research opportunities site. Press room site. Practice-related research site. In the press room, the organization provides data, connects the members with experts, and clarifies information concerning emerging health issues. Importantly, through the AANP’s social media site, nurse practitioners, nurse practitioner students, and patients discuss critical healthcare matters, and hence, they can share their thoughts and timely information concerning their profession (AANP, n.d.-a). Indeed, AANP is grounded in EBP since it adheres to professional standards, operates in line with the guidelines of patient-centered care, and offers continuous professional development. The organization emphasizes the nurse practitioner’s accountability and responsibility. The organization has clearly stated the patient-centered nature of the nurse practitioner’s role that calls for a commitment to meet the changing demands of the community and advancements in the healthcare profession. For example, through clinical resources, the organization has endorsed clinical guidelines grounded on the newest research evidence. Additionally, AANP has quality improvement programs such as education opportunities for nurse practitioners to gain specialized knowledge and clinical competency; thus, they can practice in varied healthcare landscapes (AANP, n.d.-b). In conclusion, the information contained in the AANP website has changed my perception of the organization and has made me resolve that I have to join such a professional nursing organization that is grounded on EBP. As a nursing practitioner, I have a great zeal to touch patients’ lives, and such an organization will offer me vast resources, including linking with other professionals with whom we can discuss healthcare issues so I do not get stuck in delivering my professional services. The healthcare field is dynamic, and there is a need for using EBP; thus, it will be beneficial for me to join AANP to align myself with other like-minded nurses with similar goals and commitment to utilize EBP. AANP will help me advance my professional competency and improve patient outcomes. References AANP. (n.d.-b).
