The hero’s journey assignment is a creative writing assignment that will require you to write your own story of a hero’s journey. The guidelines are minimal for this particular assignment as creativity is highly welcomed and required. Students are allowed to choose the setting and write the (short) story using the hero’s journey outline. This assignment should not be dreaded and should be fun and engaging for you to work on. Do whatever you feel like to make your story follow the hero’s journey outline engaging and entertaining. You’re allowed to use figurative language, slang and short dialogue in your story–since this is a creative writing assignment, you will not be graded on grammar or spelling. You are given the freedom to choose what genre you would like to adopt–basically there is a lot of freedom! You’ll be asked to create a character map and a story outline (optional) in addition to your story.Your character can be fictitious or real –that is up for you to decide. Your story should be roughly 2-3 pages in length (double spaced). As I′ve noted, have fun with this assignment and really just follow the outline of the hero′s journey model. Any questions?
