Imagine putting together a presentation on the research you have conducted in this course to present your findings at a professional academic conference. Drawing on your research paper, interviews, and what you have learned about ethics in human services throughout the semester, you will build a research presentation highlighting what you believe to be your main focus points.
Based on your chosen research topic, you will concentrate on the appropriate chapter(s) in the textbooks, Practicing Rights: Human Rights-Based Approaches to Social Work Practice (Androff) and Ethical, Legal, and Professional Issues in Counseling (Remley & Herlihy). You will also include at least three additional scholarly sources to support your findings.
You should use Microsoft PowerPoint, which is included in your Office 365 account. However, if preferred, you may use other software such as Google Slides, PreziLinks to an external site., Canva PresentationsLinks to an external site., or SwayLinks to an external site..
Your presentation must include the following items:
Title page
Abstract/Summary of Research
An outline of the key points associated with the social problems and ethical issues related to your chosen research topic in this course.
An outline of the patterns and themes you found in your interviews. You will want to present direct quotes and/or specific examples to support your findings. You may also want to create a table or chart that describes your data.
An outline of the key points demonstrating how a human rights-based framework can be applied to your research.
An outline of the key points reflecting how human services professionals can adapt their helping strategies and interventions for diverse individuals using a human rights-based framework.
An outline of the implications of your research and the significance of using a human-rights based approach.
Your presentation should:
be approximately 15 slides
include a reference page
Use APA formatting throughout your presentation, including citations within the text and on your References page.
Save your presentation on your computer where you can find it again, such as on your desktop or in a new folder in your documents.
Presentation Script
In addition to your PowerPoint presentation, you will write a script that could be used to present all the information provided in your slides. In addition to highlighting the key points in your presentation, you will want to provide a detailed description of each point so that your audience can clearly understand the information you are presenting. Your script’s length should adequately reflect a 10–15 minute presentation. You can use bullet points for each talking point or write your script in paragraph form.
