Hopefully you have come to see how widely applicable the material covered in this class is. To help you connect the sometimes abstract course material to the ‘real world’ I want to encourage class discussion on current events/issues in the financial markets, business, or personal finance. In the first part of the assignment, you will identify and summarize a finance topic that interests you. In the second part of the assignment, you will have the opportunity to comment on other posts. This will allow you to interact directly with other students in the class on topics of mutual interest.
Select Your Current Event Article/ Story
You are responsible for bringing one current event article/story to the Discussion Board. Guidelines for selecting your current event are as follows:
The current event must be in the last 3 months (i.e., August 1, 2023).
The underlying source of the article cannot be an opinion, political blog, or editorial (I’m trying to avoid overtly political arguments; there are plenty of interesting things to discuss without citing a polemicist).
The current event must have relevance to finance.
A wide range of topics are acceptable. I want you to find something interesting to you; then, summarize it and get some discussion started on the topic.
When creating your initial post be sure to include:
A link to the article’s web address so that interested students can read the entire article for themselves.
A one paragraph summary of the article (please do NOT repost the entire article to the board).
A brief discussion about how the article relates to class, further background on the topic, policy implications, and any further insights. (additional lectures attached to review recent class discussion topics)
