Students will produce an original research paper of no less than 5 pages (at least 1500 words) on an appropriate topic relating to Catholic Social Thought. The paper will include a bibliography, or Works Cited page, and students will reference all quotes and all non-original concepts in the paper (using MLA or Chicago Manual of Style). The topic of the paper is something you choose from either the issues that have arisen in the class, like homelessness, poverty, war/ violence, etc., or it can be an analysis of an offical Church document we’ve studied (or one we haven’t studied from the lists in the books and lectures), or it can focus on the principles, themes and theory of Catholic social thought, like human dignity, option for the poor, common good, etc. If you choose to review an official Church document of Catholic social thought, be sure to include a discussion of the historical context, themes covered, issues addressed, and its unique contribution to this body of literature. Excessive grammar, spelling and punctuation errors that detract from the clarity of the presentation will lower the grade for this assignment. All papers must be submitted through D2L
