Her basic argument was that the experiences of members of different groups, especially minority groups, depend not just on their minority status, but on the intersection of a variety of other characteristics. For example, beyond racial minority status, members of any given racial group will differ in their gender, sexual preference, religion, beliefs, education, skills, intelligence, looks, attitudes, age, experiences, etc. In some cases, an individual’s array of intersectional characteristics may be far more important than their racial minority status in determining what they will face in labor markets and in society.

With this in mind, your assignment is to write a short essay about (1) which combinations of intersectional characteristics you believe are most likely to create unusual disadvantages, and (2) which combinations of intersectional characteristics are most likely to create unusual advantages, for members of minority racial groups in the US when compared to the rest of their minority group. As part of your essay, make sure to give several examples and also try to explain your reasoning in exactly how and why the intersectional characteristics in question are likely to make a difference.
