Article Critique assignment
An article critique is an objective analysis of a written work. This assignment asks you read a scholarly article called Media Exposure and Racialized Perceptions of Inequities in Criminal Justice. It can be found on FDU (under Course Documents, called Lecture 9: Media Scholarly Article for Article Critique), and then write a critique in which you discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the article.
Identify, evaluate, and respond to an author’s ideas (positively and negatively).
Identify: the article’s purpose and the main idea/point of the article
Evaluate: How convincing is the argument? How useful is the article?
Respond: What is your assessment of the article? What issues does it raise? What could the article address that it does not?
Engage with the article, do not just summarize it. Your critique should be objective, so support your claims with evidence from the article rather than your emotional reaction. You can comment on the following:
Background: how well did the author set up the study?
Purpose: what was the purpose of the study and was it clearly stated?
Method: what data did the author use and how effective was the data at informing the study?
Remember to include the four main parts of an article critique we discussed in class: introduction; summary; critique; and conclusion. No reference list is required but use appropriate APA citation style for journal articles.
Your critique should be 1.5 – 2 pages in length.
