Write a brief interview guide that incorporates the general themes and direct questions you plan to raise in your interviews. Remember: an interview guide serves as a “schedule” of themes and questions you plan to pursue sequentially over the duration of the interview.
Consider, find, and select two research participants whom you will interview.
Conduct two, audio-recorded interviews. (Yes, a phone app will work fine, just be sure you are in a quiet setting to ensure audio quality).
Listen to both interviews.
Write a three-paragraph report, which adopts the following structure:
Paragraph 1: Report on what you learned about your research topic or question, based on the interviews. Specifically, draw upon several distinct quotes from the interviews that, when taken together, you can reasonably “code” as indicators of a dimension of some variable in your study.
Paragraph 2: Consider and report: how might the data in these interviews enrich, challenge or otherwise inform your initial conceptualization of key variables/ideas in your study?
Paragraph 3: Explore: if you could keep going with this interview-based research, what would you do next? In the process of writing out your exploration, also include what would you have done differently in conducting your two interviews that may have elicited data more effectively.
