Read the following case. Use the questions below to develop an analysis based on the concepts you have acquired in this module.
Pedro is a social worker located in downtown Orlando. He receives a referral from the Department of Children and families stating the following:
“Hilda, 84 years old, lives in an old farmhouse in the countryside, where she has lived most of her life. Hilda is in poor health; as a result, she falls to the ground more often. Hilda’s vision is deteriorating. Hilda’s neighbors are worried that Hilda will fall; she will break something and be helpless and alone for days.”
Pedro contacts Hilda, and they agree on a date. Pedro visits Hilda at her home and assesses the situation with her. Pedro explores biological and psychological aspects. Hilda admits that she falls occasionally but believes that a cane could help. She talks about how lately she’s not eating very well because she can’t see well enough to cook. Pedro discovers that Hilda has three adult children who call and visit her frequently. Pedro establishes that Hilda has several friends in the area but rarely sees them due to transportation difficulties for both her and them. However, she is affiliated with a church and participates in the activities frequently. She identifies her pastor and various church members as a support system.
