When choosing the three recommendations for writing successful grant
proposals, the first tip that caught my attention by Waxman, et al. (2017), is
through review of the grantor’s tutorials or webinars. The focus of these webinars
should be related to proposal writing, different organization requirements, and
other guides (Waxman et al., 2017).
Clark & Carter reported “the four F’s of grant proposal writing, fit, fabulous
narrative, follow-through, and finish line details” (2019). This four-step system can
help novice DNP nurses focus and complete the proposals in an expert manner.
The last recommendation is from Melnyk & Fineot-Overholt, as reporting the
suggestions of grant reviewers, the judgement of the project significance is based
on how the study addresses a problem or furthers knowledge base in that specific
area (Melnyk & Fineot-Overholt, 2018).
The grant that I am focusing on in this week’s discussion point aligns with
the assignment better that the grant I mentions in week three’s posting. I am
choosing the Nurse Anesthetist Traineeship (NAT) Program grant through the
Health Resources and Service Administration. The NAT is a government managed
grant and therefore has an extensive listing of required sections. The listed section
requirements are Project abstract, narrative budget, budget justification narrative,
standardized work plan form, program-specific forms, and attachments. (HRSA,
2023).
The areas that will be easiest for me to write will be the project narrative, as
it is similar in context to a lot of the writing that I’ve encountered in my DNP
program. The most difficult sections will be the budget justification narrative, as it
is a topic that is most unfamiliar with my professional history.
As grant writing is a team approach, I plan to use my available resources to
help with this grant proposal. Both my health network and my academic affiliate
employ full time personal who are focused on grant proposal writing. I will also
draw from the knowledge of my mentor who as a long-term program director has
a vast experience in applying and successfully receiving this particular grant. My
role in the team development will be in oversight and final approval. As the
program director, I am responsible for any grant that would come out of my
program.
