Write two essays of about 2.5 pages in length, double-spaced with 12-point font, for a total of 5 pages (you may write a bit more if necessary). For each essay, select a news article from the last 5 years (not an editorial or opinion piece) and analyze the events/phenomena described in it through the lens of one of our Module 2 readings.
You’ll be using 2 of the 4 course readings and two outside news articles. You’ll utilize the concepts from the readings to analyze the data/information/events presented in the news article.
Include a thesis statement encapsulating your argument at the end of a brief introductory paragraph. BOLD YOUR THESIS. Elaborate your analysis in the body of the essay by weaving together references from the news story and the course reading. You’ll be graded on two criteria: cogency of analysis and depth of engagement with course readings.
Cite the della Porta and Diani readings as (della Porta, pg. # [in pdf]); Collins as (Collins, pg #); and Bennett and Segerberg as (B&S, pg #). If utilizing points made in my lecture, cite as (Yeritsian, date). Cite the title, author, and publication of the news article somewhere in the text (or above it). Then cite (author, pg #) or (publication, pg #) parenthetically in the rest of the text. No separate works cited page needed.
