Throughout this course, you will be developing a systems engineering management

Throughout this course, you will be developing a systems engineering management plan (SEMP) for a project of your choice. This week, you will choose a project and develop a proposal. The project can be for a systems engineering problem of your choosing, or it can be for the standard class problem.
<
The proposal should consist of the following:
<
• Working title: Systems Engineering Management
<
Plan
<
• Project summary (1/2-1 page): This will provide the context for all decisions made in the SEMP.
<
• Short description of the focus of the svstems engineering effort (1/2-1 page)
<
• Identifies key assumptions about the systems engineering project implementation

Standard Class Project

The following project can be used if you have not identified (and received approval for) another project:

You have been approached by the owner of a rare bookstore to provide an automated accounting, staff management, inventory, ordering, and sales system. The bookstore system will streamline the store’s business processes. The customer wishes to have this sort of system to avoid hiring more employees. The benefits that the system will offer him will allow just that. With this system, the customer’s current, cumbersome, paper-based process will be replaced with a much faster and mostly automated system. The entire inventory process, from the moment the books are entered into the system to when they are purchased, will be greatly sped-up, which will in turn allow for fewer employees to get the job done in the same amount of time. Another portion of the system will be a time-logging and payroll system to keep track of employee hours and to eliminate the clutter associated with multiple systems.
<
<
In summary, the business system will do the following:
<
<
Keep track of inventory
<
Keep track of sales records
<
Keep personal information on high-profile buyers
<
Provide the ability to place orders to manufacturers
<
Provide the ability for customers to place orders
<
Provide cash register functionality
<
Connect to financial companies to instantly approve or decline payment (credit, debit, or check)
<
Track employee hours
<
The business system will not do the following:
<
<
Provide a way to advertise to customers
<
Provide detailed illustrations to buyers
<
Provide predictive buying algorithms
