You are to write ONE essay of between 900 and 1200 words (maximum word count) in response to one of the following prompts. You are not expected to do research for this essay, but you must cite any sources that you use (except for lecture notes, which we will consider common knowledge).
Essay Prompts (select one):
1. In Lecture 9, we discussed how AI programs like ChatGPT are now being used to support academic writing and together we looked at an essay that ChatGPT had written specifically on the topic of how research and writing are changing in Book & Media Studies. Write an essay that makes an argument about how AI is changing research and writing in Book & Media Studies and whether these improvements are good, bad, or neutral. Over the semester, we have discussed what responsible research looks like, taking into consideration everything from the biases inherent in search algorithms (like Google) to the exploitation of visual rhetoric to the challenges of legal restrictions (such as copyright). Write an essay that makes an argument about how research can be ethical/unethical or responsible/irresponsible. You may discuss research tools or concepts such as search terms, graphs, and objectivity/subjectivity, although you are not limited to these tools/concepts.
