Network Evaluation Report
Overview
How do you become good at any skill? You practice it over and over until it becomes second nature. Troubleshooting computer and network problems is a skill that evolves over your career. Through the practice of identifying and troubleshooting network issues, you will continue to develop a mindset that is attuned to finding problems and developing solutions. This is a critical component of systems thinking and the adversarial mindset.
Cybersecurity analysts and network engineers work side by side to build the strongest network defense possible. It is possible that you as a security analyst might be asked to help with the networking protection from time to time. Having the fundamental skills to understand and troubleshoot problems that emerge is key to continued protection of a system.
For this project, you will assume the role of a job candidate on an interview. As part of the interview process, you will be asked to troubleshoot hypothetical issues in a network. You will create a network evaluation report that documents your findings for your interviewers.
The project will be submitted in Module Six.
In this assignment, you will demonstrate your mastery of the following competency:
Identify and troubleshoot deficiencies related to network security
Scenario
You are in an interview for a cybersecurity analyst position. As part of the interview process, the company tests all candidates’ troubleshooting capabilities. You are asked to solve hypothetical challenges based on a network diagram. Review the list of challenges and network diagram below. Select two challenges and provide recommendations for how to address the challenges.
Challenges:
Network_1 segment needs to have all access to the Network_3 segment
The workstations on Network_2 cannot access The_Internet
Remote administrators need access to the server in Network_4
Any requests for access to an SSH console need to be directly routed to Network_3
