Informative Speech
Topic: History of Healthcare (Globally)
Please be sure to follow the format guidelines:
Prepare and deliver a 6-minute informative speech. Be sure to also include a visual aid and speech outline. (FYI-I AM TAKING THIS CLASS ONLINE)
(Acceptable Visual Aids:
1. Microsoft PowerPoint Slides*: Be sure you have no more than 3 slides. The slides should be used to present graphs, charts, pictures or other visual information. Be sure that any written content is large enough for the audience. Remember your slides are there as a visual aid, you are not supposed to read from the slides. PowerPoint slides should be presented during your speech, so make sure the slide content is visible in your recording. Please DO NOT attach the slides to the discussion post, you will not receive credit for the visual aid. You can show a slide presented on a computer or you can hold the printed-out slides during your speech. Remember to just show the slides when you are talking about the corresponding content.
2. Artifacts/Props/Models**: These types of visual aids can be used to demonstrate elements of your speech. Be sure that your prop is large enough for the class to see and that the prop remains covered or out of sight until you are ready to talk about the prop. Remember to interact with your prop.
3. Poster boards: Poster boards should be used to show pictures, photographs, charts or tables. Be sure that all typed content on the board is large enough so that audience can read (minimum of 20-point font). Make sure that content on the board is securely placed on the board with glue or etc. All content on the board must be typed, no handwritten content.
4.Paper Handouts: Handouts are useful if your information is too detailed to fit on a slide. You must introduce or talk about the handout. You can hold up the handout as well.
5.Upload the handout along with the speech in the appropriate speech discussion post. Review: How do I upload a document in the Rich Content Editor as a student?Links to an external site.
6.Flip Charts: Students will not be allowed to write on the board, if some form of written material is presented, it must be pre-written on a flip chart. All pictures must be inserted into a PowerPoint presentation. Videos can only be 40 seconds in length.)
A minimum of two (2) different outside sources must be used for this speech. ONLY ONE SOURCE MAY COME FROM THE INTERNET. An internet source would be content from a .com website. If your sources are from electronic journal databases, this is not what I am referring to when I say Internet source. A source from an .edu, .gov, or .org site would be fine.
Please make sure your sources are Recent, Relevant, and Reliable. Remember the The 3 R’s of Research(Recent, Relevant and Reliable)
You are required to incorporate one (1) visual aid into the presentation.
3×5 note cards are allowed for this speech. You will not be able to read from your outline during your speech. Outlines that are not turn in prior to the beginning of the speech will not receive credit.
A 6–10-page outline will be turned in with your speech. Please include a bibliography using the correct MLA or APA style on a separate page.
Outlines, including reference pages, must be typed. Please use the Informative Speech outline format.

Speeches will be graded based on the following criteria:
The topic selected is unique, compelling, and focused.
Provides the audience with information that they DID NOT know before.
Speech includes a strong introduction, a conclusion, and an effectively organized body.
Speech includes research from credible sources. A minimum of 2 sources must be cited in the speech. Your speech grade will be lowered by 15 points for every missing oral citation.
Speaker incorporates a visual aid that enhances the understanding of the speaker’s topic.
Speaker is well prepared; therefore, the speech has been practiced so that the speaker is not stumbling, stopping, and starting.
Speaker incorporates appropriate hand gestures and body movements, including an effective use of space.
Speaker improves from previous speeches, meaning any comments and suggestions of earlier evaluations should be addressed and remedied for this speech. Therefore, if I have commented on your lack of eye contact in the last speeches, this needs to be improved for this speech.
Three important elements of an informative speech:
Finding a topic that is unique, new, and compelling.
Gathering strong supporting material (research).
Organization.

In my introduction, as the reason to listen, I could reference that since 75% of the students in this course stated their area of study at New York College was in Health and Public Services (this is a hypothetical percentage), learning about a communicable virus is important and part of their possible career paths. Please make sure the result is factual.
