Admissions Essay for Master′s Degree:
Below is some information about my specific background, goals, and interests. Please let me know if any other information is needed.
1. Background and Experience: My background and experience include fields that are not related to accounting. By the time I enter the program (Summer 2024), I will have completed an Audit internship with CohnReznick in Austin.
2. Motivation:Motivation I′m interested in pursuing the degree mainly because I want to become CPA-eligible. I also know UT Dallas is a great school, and I′ve heard great things about it from friends who go there. Specifically, I′m really interested in connecting with other students who have the same goals as me. I would also love the networking opportunities provided by the job fairs at UT Dallas. Since I live in east Dallas, it would make it much easier for me to go to job fairs compared to my last school, which took 4 hours to drive to.
3. Career Goals: My long-term career goal is to first get my CPA and then get into a big public accounting firm, working my way up to the position of a Partner. I specifically want to get into Audit and Advisory. I haven′t cared too much for tax, but I′ve loved classes and activities related to auditing.
4. Challenges and Achievements: I have had some challenges throughout my course here, as I have had to work full time to get to where I am while doing college. I graduated high school early and got into my bachelor′s program at Lamar University at 17 years old. My goal has always been to get my master′s by the time I am 21 years old, and I found that the way to do it was by taking as many classes as possible from Lamar University and even some more classes from LSU Online that would be transferable to my master′s degree. The hardest part of my academic journey was when I was working as a Detention Officer for Rockwall County, since it was a stressful job where I was working anywhere from 60 to 72 hours a week. I had to maintain a full class load while doing this job. I also just finished an internship with Amazon as an Area Manager Intern, in which I led over 50 associates.
5. Unique Qualities and Contributions: I have a unique background with experience in a multitude of fields, including Law Enforcement, Operations, Fast Food, moving, and construction. I would also love to participate in various campus activities that UT Dallas offers and have a chance to experience some of the campus life that I never got to experience while attending Lamar University fully online.
