Once there, click on “What We Do” located in the banner across the top of the SPLC website. Then, click on “Fighting Hate” and read about one of the extremely important missions of the SPLC.
Next, click on “Hate Map” located in the banner across the top of the SPLC website.
On the Hate Map, choose a state with which you are familiar.
Once you’ve chosen a state, choose at least four SPLC-identified hate groups.Note, if you chose a state with fewer than four hate groups, supplement your exploration of that state with additional groups located in Pennsylvania. All in all, you must examine at least four groups.
In your written assignment, complete the following:Identify each hate group that you’ve chosen and summarize SPLC’s information about it in a paragraph of about 150 words.
For each hate group, identify which category of Sullivan’s classification of hate that it would fit into (obsessive, hysterical or narcissistic).
In a paragraph of about 150 words, discuss the following:Do you percieve any of the hate groups that you’ve chosen as dangerous?
If yes, which ones and why? If not, why not?
Should the state or federal government do anything about these groups?
If yes, what? If not, why not?
In a paragraph of about 150 words, discuss your personal reaction to Sullivan’s article and the SPLC’s work on hate groups.
