Step 1: Select a piece of art (ancient) from this course that you want to explore. It can be a piece of sculpture, painting, architecture, music, literature, etc. Step 2: Now, select a contemporary piece of art which attempts to convey the same message. It does not have to be the same medium, you can compare a painting to a sculpture, a song to architecture, a movie to a painting or even a TV show to a painting…..be creative! (Contemporary means of the present time; modern). Step 3: Using the terms learned in this course, evaluate, describe and interpret your pieces of art. (Example: What materials did the artist use? What was the artist’s message? How are the materials and methods of the modern artist the same as the artist of the time period you have chosen? How are they different? Why this piece of art is considered significant? How does the piece illustrate and/or reflect (or not) the time period in which it was created? What is your opinion of this piece of art? etc. Step 4: Conduct research on your chosen pieces of art. Go to the library and look at books and magazines. Search art sites on the internet. Remember to keep track of where you get your information for your “Works Cited” page. You must cite at least one source. If paraphrasing, you must include citations. Remember, plagiarism is not acceptable and do not use Wikipedia. Step 5: Write your essay.
