The content of your entry is confidential and will be read ONLY by your facilitator! In
situations where an entry is used for illustrative purposes, you will be de-identified. This is
intended to solicit honest expressions of genuine thoughts and feelings.
This assessment will consist of a series of reflections in a reflective journal connected to
Modules 3, 4 and 5. Each student will maintain a reflective journal page during the term.
The journal entries will be the student’s reflections on videos or short film scenarios
depicting different aspects of cultural diversity in the practice of Aesthetics. You will be
expected to capture how your experience and knowledge on cultural diversity learned from
the course as well as the depicted scenarios will guide you going forth.
Module 3: Aesthetics surgery to transform racial characteristics, is it appropriate?
In the article referenced below by Jablonski, the issue of transforming one’s racial
characteristics using Aesthetics surgery is discussed. After reading the article, share your
thoughts in your journal. Among other things, consider the ethical and cultural aspects of
such a transformation.

journal how emotions are expressed in your culture. Share any experience of this type of
expression of emotion being misunderstood.

Module 5: Cultural communication differences
Watch the videos on the different communication styles of different cultures. Record in your
journal your cultural communication style. Is it direct or indirect? Share any personal
experience of this type communication style being misunderstood by others.
