Purpose of Assignment
Police officers have difficult jobs, they are asked to address every societal failure that our other social institutions have failed to address. Societal failures such as the response to mental health crises and homelessness do not persist because of a lack for care; these issues persist because they present complex problems that are difficult to solve. Nevertheless, the police are expected to respond to these issues to our satisfaction.
The purpose of these this assignment is to provide you with a sense of the complex challenges that police officers are frequently faced with. This case study will require you to practice role playing, problem solving, and critical thinking regarding the police response to mental illness.
