Peer number one;
One factor that I am going to discuss is the role change that women had n the 1970s. This change had a big influence of the development of social policy. We were giving women more of a right to make decisions within our society. Women’s primary jobs were to stay at home, care for the children, cook and clean while their husbands went out and made money. When this change took place it allowed women to go out of their homes, meaning they needed things such as child care. This made it a necessity for them to take this into consideration and address the different policies that provide for the need of women and children (Stern and Axinn, 2012). Mostly, women were on the poverty line after having to pay for childcare. When this came about, it kept them in poverty due to their loss of income. One other factor was the development of social security. Social security was put in place to help the elderly population. This development was mainly put in place for the veteran population, ensuring that they were serviced well (Stern and Axinn, 2012). It created a support system, although not always agreed that it is the correct way to support our citizens, it has shown effect throughout the years. Lastly another factor that influenced development of social policy was English Poor Laws. This was put in place to help families have the support that they needed to be successful. It allowed focus on children that were going to be a part of our future generations (Stern and Axinn, 2012).
