The myths of “Phaethon” 22, “Niobe” 198; “Midas” 188; — deal with characters who are stricken by extreme forms of human emotions such as madness, self-love, arrogance, foolishness and pride, which transform them or change them. However, Ovid’s myths are neither moralistic nor sentimental. He portrays how passion drives people to the point where they become something other than themselves.
