In no more than 2 pages, write a 5-paragraph essay to address the following prompt: Discuss the decisions made by the prosecutor to put on the evidence of the police interview, the defense attorney’s decision to plead insanity, and the jury’s role in deciding the case.
The 5 paragraph essay is a standard writing exercise that requires the author to provide (1) a brief introduction to the material to be presented in the paper (i.e., thesis and a short summary of the issue, analysis, and conclusion), (2) a brief rendition of the relevant facts that illustrate the issue, (3) the criminal justice issue(s) at play, (4) the student’s critical analysis of the matter from a social and systemic perspective, and (5) the conclusion where the student provides his or her opinion of how the matter should be addressed, any future implications or alternative solutions, and any extra-judicial/social factors s/he deems relevant. The conclusion should keep in mind that although the matter may have been addressed by law, the matter still presents a problem of legal significance for society.
Using the textbook and outside resources is appropriate, but you must cite your sources properly.
This exercise aims to have the student identify important concepts, engage in critical analysis, and enhance written expression.
The essay should be formatted in times new roman, 12-point font, single-spaced, with 1″ margins. Use APA conventions for short written assignments, no cover page, no running header, and no abstract or key terms. Include a separate reference page as needed.
