Requirements for your reaction paper
1. Develop a well-written, organized, 1,200 – 1,500-word reaction paper.
2. Double-space your essay and use Times New Roman, 11-point font.
3. Discuss the social and political “mood” of society during the time the story takes place, and the social and historical significance of the story.
4. Discuss theoretical aspects discussed in class and refer to specific examples. You need to explain how the scene represents the theory.
5. Compare and contrast elements of both movies throughout the essay. Do not discuss one movie and then move on to the next. Find common themes.
Look for the following elements in the movies that you select.
▪ Any elements of bias, prejudice, or in-group/out-group dynamics and how it affected the outcome, actions, or
behavior of characters in the story.
▪ Any elements that demonstrate the potential of sport to create avenues for understanding another person’s life experiences or individual circumstances.
▪ Note any stereotypes related to sport, race, socioeconomic status, etc., and how these perceptions may have differed from reality. Some of these stereotypes may even include the way the movie was written and directed in addition to the stereotypes portrayed.
▪ Discuss what the movie reveals about equity, diversity, and inclusivity and how it differs (or not) from modern day society
