Basirat: Hello everyone,
Wow, I can’t believe I am at the end of this chapter, it has been a struggle, but it is all worth it. I am excited for the next one. What I have learnt will be put to work. Good luck to everyone.
The ways I will further continue to contribute to Nursing practice at work will be educating staff Nurses on utilizing evidence- based practice to provide quality care for the residents. I will search for Nursing based clinical research related to care of geriatrics in long-term care and at the community and ensure I share these with the staff Nurses and inter-professional team. I will ensure I volunteer to be part of resolving concerns related to patient care, staffing concerns, and building moral at work. I will foster relationship between Nursing staff and other inter-professionals so we can improve communication and increase patient care satisfaction with quality care.
My future Nursing area will provide education for RNs that are planning to go into any time of administrative role in long term care. I believe any Nurse working in long term care should have received specialized education and certification to work in this field, but this not encouraged at work, you know about this out of being curious. I plan on writing a proposal where CMS will mandate the training most especially for Directors of Nurses to get specialized education and training before they start working as Directors of Nursing department. Presently, administrators on LTC must have specialized training with 100 hours of administrator in training before they can sit for the exam and work as an administrator, but no expectation is placed on Director of Nurses. Since the director of Nurses co-ordinate, the care of patient in the community, I feel if that person is knowledgeable on gerontology and understands regulations that person will run the community with patient quality care on their mind. Majority of the DON take the job because they have Nursing background, and fake the knowledge until they make it, and those that couldn’t get frustrated and live the job. Globally, if more emphasis is placed on providing proper education for the staff in Nursing home, I think this will reduce the constant turnover of staffing. I think the concept of improving leadership in Nursing should be encouraged. Emphasis is placed on Nurse leaders at work where people think they are not free to talk to some of the leaders or depending on their position you see them only when there is an issue on the floor, but if every charge Nurse training involves leadership and understanding that they are leaders in their own right, they will be empowered and handle their work with grace and ownership.
Tacara: Nursing practice greatly contributes to service within one community and organization in many ways. First, the practice enhances health promotion among the many stakeholders within the organization and the individuals in the community. Patients benefit from education about various health concerns, and the public and other members of the community also get to learn about various ways of preventing themselves from diseases and injuries. Nurses have adequate knowledge of care, and community members benefit from effective care provision and assistance to cure from nurses. The participation of nurses in rehabilitation and provision of support helps members of the community and organization embrace good values and live healthy life.
My nursing areas of interest and future professional development can greatly impact global healthcare in that better ways of providing healthcare services are likely to be introduced (Edmonson et al., 2017). Better ways of service delivery, the extensive use of telehealth, and recent innovations in healthcare ensure that all the patients get adequate care and that nurses in various parts of the world can offer their services in the best way possible.
The areas of nurse innovations and informatics, and technology help nurses find new ways of handling old and emerging problems in healthcare. Having an interest in these areas transforms the experience of nurses as they learn that working smarter is much better than working harder, and in this case, the future of care in healthcare is greatly improved. The knowledge nurses learn from these innovations and technologies helps enhance their thinking and creativity in handling the various dilemmas in healthcare (Edmonson et al., 2017). In this way, better solutions and decisions are made, creating a positive impact on general global health. Nursing innovations expand the roles of nurses and create various ways of reducing stress within the nursing workplace; this positively impacts global healthcare.
