This assignment will be a combination of response and exercise, totaling 500+ words. Respond to these poems and try to apply the concepts from Burroway’s chapter. Discuss things you think the poems were doing well that you’d like to try in your own work. Did you have a favorite poem? Favorite lines? You’ll notice that Hurt writes prose poems, or poems without line breaks. Discuss the experience of reading these poems as compared to lineated poetry.
For an exercise, try an imitation where you write a poem on the same topic and in the same style as one of the poems Burroway included in the chapter. Then try an imitation where you write your own prose poem on the same topic and in the same style as Hurt’s.
