Write a 300-500 word reflection paper regarding hypothesis testing. Make sure to read the information in the text from Chapter 2 about theories and research before writing your paper. Pick one of the following proverbs:
Like father, like son, One bad apple spoils the barrel, You can’t teach an old dog new tricks, Blood is thicker than water, Opposites attract, The early bird catches the worm.
After picking your proverb, address the following in your paper:
Formulate a testable hypothesis (provide specifics here) based on the meaning of the proverb. For this part, think about a way that you could accurately test and gather information about your proverb. ..
Discuss what theory (i.e. Freud, Erikson, Piaget, Vygotsky, Bronfenbrenner, Darwin) from this week’s reading you think would best support your hypothesis. How does that specific theory work with your hypothesis?
Here is a short example that covers the key components of the paper (note that this does not meet the word count requirements):
The proverb that I picked that was “Like father, like son.” My hypothesis is that children will mimic the behaviors that they see modeled for them by trusted adults. I would test this by inviting 15 parents and 15 kids to play mini-golf for the afternoon. The parents would go first, and the kids would watch how their parent played the game. After the parents did their round, the kids would get a chance to play. During the 2 rounds, I would first observe actions that the parents made, and then watch the kids to see if they did similar things as they played. For example, if a parent got a hole in one, how did they react? If they were loud and jumped around, did their child do something similar after a good shot?
I feel that this best relates to Bandura’s social learning theory, as the text states that “children learn in a social context by observing and imitating models” (Papalia & Martorell, 2020, p. 24). My hypothesis relates to children mimicking behaviors, which follows the basis of Bandura’s theory.
