PSY101 General Psychology
Selected Topics Paper Instructions
Please read the following instructions carefully!
You will select one case study or experiment from the provided list and write a 2-3 page, double-spaced paper covering the content outlined below:
• Start by introducing the case study or experiment and summarizing it. Write the summary as if it will be read by someone who has never heard of this particular case study or experiment before.
• Next, provide a brief reaction paragraph; explain why you selected this particular case study or experiment and describe your reaction to it—what did you find most interesting? Why?
• Now, consider how the case study or experiment relates to topics and concepts covered in PSY101 General Psychology. Specifically, you should reference a minimum of 5 topics and/or concepts we have covered in this course and describe how the case study or experiment relates to those concepts. Please underline each topic and/or concept from the course that you are relating to your case study or experiment.
• Next, consider the implications of the case study or experiment more broadly. What does it tell us about human psychology? What are some real-world implications of what we have learned from this case study or experiment? Does any of this apply to your own life or the lives of others? Feel free to comment on public policy, historical, current, or future events, etc. and make suggestions for improvements if applicable.
• Finally, include a reference page. This page does not count toward the 2-3 page paper requirement (i.e., your paper should be between 2 and 3 pages itself, without the reference page). If you are familiar with MLA, APA, or any other referencing format, feel free to use one of those. If not, simply provide as much information as you can about the sources you used when researching your case study or experiment (e.g., links to websites). I am NOT grading your assignment based on how you formatted your references, but I do need to see where your information came from!
A few words of caution…
• Please do not use quotations in your paper. This needs to be in your own words, so paraphrase what you research and learn. Do not take any content directly from the resource(s) you have selected!
• Do not plagiarize! These papers will be automatically submitted to an online plagiarism checker. If you plagiarize, you will earn a 0 on your paper. I do not permit make-up papers, even if the plagiarism is unintentional!
• Please use good spelling and grammar.
• Lastly, do not include the instructions or any of the information above in your submission. Your submission should only consist of your original work.
