Write an analysis about the movie “Beautiful Mind” by Ron Howard , as well as an analysis along with it that better understands the whole picture about schizophrenia and mental health.
Class Instrustions
An analysis examines the parts to better understand the whole. For this project, a shorter and simpler version of a classic academic essay, you will write a persuasive analysis of a major cultural work—a movie, an episode of TV series, an album or song, a book—that synthesizes your ideas and observations with concepts from at least one major area of study outside that work. The idea is to write a serious academic essay that helps show the meaningful side of a particular element of pop culture. One example we’ll read for class is “The Gospel According to Spider-Man,” which analyzes and makes an argument about some surprising Christian underpinnings in the first Spider-Man movie.
Whatever you write about, remember that the audiences for formal academic essays—scholars, academics, researchers, and other experts—expect authors to include information obtained from several scholarly-appropriate sources. The synthesis component allows you to research one aspect of the topic and apply it to the other element. For this focused project, I ask that you limit your research to exactly five sources: two scholarly articles (also called peer-reviewed articles), two books, and one website. Of course, you will also cite the movie, TV episode, album, song, or book you write about, too. Be sure to document all sources in your essay according to the MLA style. The Purdue OWL (Online Writing Lab) has a useful section on MLA documentation.
