Here is a draft of my thesis statement:
The documentation and demonstration of black death are synchronized with a narrative that separates whiteness from the violence they perpetuate, and in turn, places blame on Black people for the brutality inflicted upon them. This intentionally distorted narrative enforces parameters on how the public must react to white violence and hence, how black death should be grieved. Detecting and exposing mass media’s harmful exhibition of black death is necessary to combat this narrative for the protection and betterment of Black life. This essay will juxtapose mass media’s exposition of black murder, with black culture’s proper memorialization of black death, in order to unmask the media’s participation in upholding and reinforcing white supremacy and its manifestos utilized to terrorize and dominate Black people.
The 5 sources must be about black culture’s proper memorialization of black death, it could be about grief, social change, or the celebration of Black life. The sources could be articles, books, music, or educational videos found on social media. By comparing these sources to the exhibition of Black death we see how counterproductive it is to showcase such videos when nothing is changing and Black people keep getting murdered.
Please only take this job if you feel confident in arguing this thesis statement and finding the proper sources.
